By any chance does anyone have any instrumental copies of any songs by The Streets?
I can't find any anywhere, and I could really use some. Anyone have some that are willing to share?

Anyone heard the Prof Green remix of "When You Wasn't Famous"? Any thoughts? I have to say, I like it better than the original. Any song that starts with Mike Skinner throwing up is destined for great things.

And has anyone formed views of the new album (if you've heard it)?

Surprised that there has been such little activity lately in here!
What's everyone think of the new single?
And who's going to be seeing Mike on his tour next month? I'll be seeing him in Newcastle!

Third Album In April! [Jan. 24th, 2006|09:25 am]
street geezers.

There's been very little activity here lately, so I hop there are still people reading. Anyway, this is from the NME:

"The Streets have revealed that their new album will be called 'The Hardest Way To Make An Easy Living'.

The album, due for release on April 11, is also loosely based on Mike Skinner's life after the success of 2004's 'A Grand Don't Come For Free'.

"It isn't a narrative," Skinner told NME. "But to be honest I don't think I could write an album without feeling like there are plots going on. Actually this album is a true story. After 'A Grand Don't Come For Free' I was like, 'What am I going to write about?' I can't moan I've got no money any more, but then it gradually dawned on me that my life is so crazy!
You'd never believe some of the stuff that's happened to me along the way in countries far away."

Skinner spent the summer recording his third album at home and then he went to New York in October to finish the tracks. He worked with an engineer who would email over the sounds Skinner requested and The Streets frontman would put the pieces of the record together.

Skinner revealed that he wanted Snoop Dogg and Gwen Stefani to appear on the new album. He said: "I've spoken to loads of people - it could prove difficult. Maybe on the next album we'll do it, but it's definitely an idea I'd like to pursue."

He also revealed some unlikely influences. "I love The Smiths, but to me it all sounds quite similar - I want to be more like The Who. Every album I make I want to move the sound on. The first one was grungey garage, the second was really slow and dark. This album is going to be a bit more polished and bit faster, hopefully exciting."

And this is from the triple J website (an Australian radio station):

"Mike Skinner has taken The Streets to New York to record their third album.

He's been there since October and things were going well... until a bottle of wine leaked through his bag and all over his laptop where bits of the new album were being stored. Mike's still not sure whether he'll be able to get the data back.

Maybe giving the new record the working title 'The Hardest Way To Make An Easy Living' was a bit of an omen....

Unless another disaster strikes… the album’s due in April."

So, there you go.

Kind of an oldie from the official mailing list... [Oct. 11th, 2005|02:40 pm]
street geezers.

As you may have heard on Radio 1 or seen from the video on MTV, The Streets have remixed Bloc Party's single 'Banquet'.

The track is Mike's apology to Jo Whiley for the theft of a valuable microphone from Radio 1 while being interviewed on her radio show!

Well, this track will feature as the B-side to Bloc Party's new single 'Two More Years' and is available for pre order here. The Streets remix will feature as an audio b-side on CD1 while the video-featuring Mike will be available on CD2.

A Breath Of Fresh Attire [Aug. 30th, 2005|11:19 pm]
street geezers.
I just got the Mitchell Brothers debut 'A Breath Of Fresh Attire' and I can confirm that it's very good. Doesn't quite have the left-field, immediate impact that Original Pirate Material had and certianly not the visceral poetry of A Grand Don't Come For Free but hey, what other albums do. From the singles released thus far you've probably already worked out that the production has a distinct Streets vibe.

1. Fuck Me? Fuck You!
2. G.O.R.G.I.E (ft Leo The Lion)
3. Routine Check (ft Kano, Mike)
4. She's Got It All Wrong (ft Leo, Mike)
5. Someone Can't Look Us In The Eye
6. Harvey Nicks (ft Sway, Mike)
7. When The Whistle Blows
8. Alone With The TV
9. Excuse My Brother (ft Mike)
10. Smart Bastard
11. Wish I Did The Same
12. Don't Try This At Home

Anyone else heard it? Comments?

Oh yeah...I also got a copy (download) of Mike's remix of Banquet by Bloc Party. Highly interesting but a tad disposable (might grow on me though). I'm still gonna listen to it a heck of a lot more than, say, The Game's new single.
